Richmond Allergy and Asthma Specialists is a privately-owned specialty practice that cares about finding the cause of patient’s allergy and asthma symptoms. We are well known for our thorough work-up so the best treatment can be offered to help our patients feel better.
A nonexempt position responsible for day-to-day operation of the provider and provider patients which includes tracking provider schedule, keeping provider on time, providing nursing care to the patient, working in collaboration with the Allergy Lab Nurses to ensure quality care; administering biologic injections (i.e. Xolair, Tespire) other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Promote team ethics and professionalism.
- Ensure the proper identification of the patient prior to performing any care.
- Begin the check-in part of the patient’s visit by obtaining measurements of vital signs and documenting in patient record.
- Observe patient for any indications of immediate care needed by the provider.
- Document in patient’s record any additional information that provider prefers for their check-in process (i.e., listing of allergy medications currently taking or completion of their intake form,)
- Assist the provider with creating a systematized workflow.
- Administer pulmonary function tests as directed by provider by giving clear instructions to the patient to carry out the procedure.
- Administer prescribed medications: by mouth, injectable (IM/SQ), inhalation (nebulizer/ inhaler)
- Responsible for timely and accurate phone calls.
- Provide patient education and instruction on medical interventions and medication therapy as directed by provider, including starting immunotherapy.
- Coordinate care with the lab, front desk, and business office for patient management.
- Order lab work under providers’ direction.
- Handle incoming calls. Triage calls, directing patient to get emergency assistance if warranted. Document phone messages. Once all pertinent information has been received, have provider review messages, and relay any information needed to caller.
- Request medical records from other medical offices or facilities as needed. Schedule x-rays, procedures as ordered.
- Ability to use electronic scheduler to print schedules or make appointments.
- Consult business office regarding self-pay patient charges or questions about insurance.
- Obtain prior authorizations for patient medications as needed.
- Work with pharmaceutical representatives when needing signature from provider for samples.
- Explain procedures and treatments in a calm, professional, pleasant manner to patient to gain cooperation and understanding.
- Provide instant medical care in emergencies.
- Participate in departmental and team meetings.
- Responsible for the safety and comfort of the patient.
- Sanitize and maintain exam rooms in an orderly manner.
- Assist with care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
- Fulfill organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights and sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate manager.
- Attend and participate in team and departmental meetings.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and Richmond Allergy and Asthma Specialists confidentiality policy.
- Fulfill organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/ promoting patient rights and sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with Provider Nurse Supervisor.
- Represent Richmond Allergy and Asthma Specialists in a positive and professional manner.
- Other duties as assigned by Provider Nurse Supervisor.
- If immediate supervisor is not available direct the issue. Concern to the Practice Administrator.
Education: Current Licensed Practical Nurse License, Certified Medical Assistant, and current CPR certification.
Experience: One year of experience in family, pediatric or internal medicine private practice.
